Hurt Feelings

Ok, so my feelings are getting hurt these days.

I have a male friend, we'll say his name is George, just in case the real guy knows my blog. I don't think he does but just in case.

Ok, so George and I have been friends for a very very long time. I make a new friend, we'll say her name is Karen. At one point Karen and George meet and Karen decides she wants him to be her friend, too. And George really likes Karen and wants to be her friend. Only, I think he thinks he is going to be able to be more than just friends with Karen. Karen has no interest in George as anything more than a friend but she has no trouble allowing him to think he might have a slight (ever so slight) chance at being more than a friend because he opens doors for her. I don't mean structural doors, I mean opportunities. So, now George doesn't want to do stuff with me anymore and I realize that Karen is not as good a friend as I thought.

So, my feelings are hurt.

I never liked women who use friendships with other women to pass the time until some male comes along. This woman is not your friend and never was. Aren't you glad that you know that about her now? Welcome this as an opportunity to find someone who really is a friend.

why do women still think this is acceptable behavior? you're better off without her. hopefully george will realize YOU are true blue.

I can understand how you feel - but don't take it personally. A relationship between girlfriends and a relationship between a girl and a guy are sooo different, different feelings , and hell, just different instincts! I don't think she was using you to pass the time until a male came along. Men & women instinctually will always look for chemistry - a connection. Don't be hurt.

I'm a guy in my early 40's. I enjoy helping people if I can, and I never expect something in return. Just making someone happy puts a smile on my face. If he enjoys her company, and she's not strictly gimme gimme gimme, and he's not spending money on her, I see no problem. Though, I don't know her personally. Perhaps you see somthing that I don't. You could talk to your guy friend, see how he feels about her. If he wants more than a friendship, maybe you should tell him that she's not interested in anything more than a friendship. See how he reacts. He may pull back from her, or he may be happy helping.
