Thinking about getting a gun.

I spent the day with my right-winged gun carrying friend. He's a real fan of glocks, the gun of choice for the police force. He has about 6 of them and a 45 as well. He wanted me to get a feel for them and spent about 2 hours discussing safety and rules, etc.

I'm considering purchasing a handgun and then later getting a license to carry. The Glock I tried was Glock 19, I tried a smaller one which I thought I would like a lot but the trigger response on the 19 was really nice. Just as I was getting into it, he handed me his 45 to try. Wow, that's a powerful piece.

I'm really happy with the results of my efforts. From only about 9 feet away, I missed the target about the first 10 rounds. Then I started to get a feel for it. We must have gone through about 3 - 4 hundred rounds between the two of us. By the end, I was able to hit the target at 40 feet.

I'm really concerned about this avian flu that is going to hit us. And I don't know if I'm on track or not but I anticipate some chaos. I think that it is anticipated that we are going to lose approximately 30% of the workforce. It will be a while before I make the purchase and I plan to do a lot of shooting practice before I actually go for the license.

We'll see.

Did you get a rush from shooting a gun? I did.

I'm not very good with guns...but I was practicing with a rifle.

Are you getting the gun to shoot birds that may be carrying the avian flu? Your post confused me...LOL!

Krystyn, you're funny. Love the new pic.

There isn't going to be enough medical treatment for people in the US. This is why I think the government is pushing the illegal immigrants issue.

Everyone is going to be affected but the poor and the ones who have to work outdoors among people are going to be hit the worst.

I suspect that we are going to have some real problems, especially if we have reduced law enforcement, or rioting from people trying to get medical attention, etc. I'm just trying to consider "worst case scenario"

Freebird, my friend was so militaristic about everything I didn't have time to get a rush. He kept me focused on the target and on safety the whole time.

When I would shoot, if I wasn't close enough to the target he would say "this guy could still kill you", or "you'll be dead in 5 seconds", "man, you're an easy target for a rape with shooting like that"....

"get your finger out of the trigger" "show me the gun isn't loaded" "get that finger off the trigger" "don't put your finger on the trigger 'till you have your target"

Get the picture? Sort of hard to get a rush through all that...but I did improve and I really am thinking seriously about it.

Well, that doesn't sound like much fun, but then again owning a gun is serious business. If I lived alone I'd have one, but my security system right now consists of my kid who sleeps with a baseball bat next to his bed, my two Chihuahuas, and a spray can of Mace John bought me that sits on my dresser next to my bed.
